Do people still want everything in taupe?
Not so long ago I wrote about a room I did using 15 shades of taupe, and I still love the room. But, I do think the design world has moved on, and completely neutral rooms are starting to look dated. There was recently a mass of press coverage about a particular show flat in London. My reaction what 'how boring is that'? Particularly when times are tough I think it is important that home is a warm and welcoming place, which cocoons us and is a haven from the harsh reality of the outside world. There are still an awful lot of interiors where the surfaces are too hard, the fabrics too shiny and the lighting too flat. With so many wonderful colours, shades and textures available to us in our own homes or in our showplaces surely we can do better than that.
