Canary Wharf Apartment
Sophisticated German clients wanted a contemporary and versatile
look to this 19th floor apartment. Much of the furniture was
sourced on the continent or over the internet. The media room
cum study was walled in carriage cloth to enhance its acoustic
and sound proofing qualities. The bedroom wall hanging was
hand woven in Yorkshire to reflect the image of the Thames
flowing past the flat.
Kent Country House
Elegance, simplicity and relaxed formality were the keys to this thirties country house which we refurbished for a young Indian family. By contrast the colourful playroom is a funky haven for their young daughters.
Kew Apartment
New build flats can be featureless. The challenge here was to give recently retired clients a characterful, contemporary apartment. Four of the rooms were fitted with bespoke joinery including these cherry display cabinets and maple wardrobes with their carefully laid out opposing veneers.
Mayfair Apartment
This flat was decorated in the transitional style for American clients. It is a collaboration between the clients, their American Decorator and Mary. The entrance hall is particularly welcoming, in its combined red, gold and mahogany colour scheme. Most other windows were dressed with Roman blinds in woven grasses and other natural materials, their simple lines making a perfect background to the clients' fine collection of Oriental art.
London Houses
The dining room, bedroom and entrance hall in three different London houses show how texture, colour and furnishings can vary the mood in traditional interiors. The brief for the kitchen in a Victorian pump house was 'strictly no blond wood' which was achieved by using emerald green laminate, glass worktops, fibre optics and a bamboo floor.
Villa in Lagos
This vast contemporary living room in Lagos was coloured by 11 different shades of taupe in silk, cotton and linen, making a blessed relief from the heat and light outside. The clients wanted an elegant, international flavour to the room as a foil for their extensive collection of Nigerian art.
Ranch House in Oman
This 40 ft square living room in Oman houses a fine collection of English antiques. Whilst intended to impress it had to be comfortable. Seating areas were separated by different colour schemes and connected by a whole wall of curtains. Sumptuous silks, taffetas, damasks and trimmings completed the scene.
Sussex Barn
Mary worked alongside www.alpahbarn.co.uk on the refurbishment of this 6 bay Sussex barn. A clever combination of modern and traditional materials made it a highly successful, speculative development.
